The federal Pest Management Regulatory Agency (PMRA) has approved a request by the OMAFRA’s provincial minor use coordinator for emergency use of Regalia Maxx on hops in Ontario, New Brunswick, Quebec and BC to combat downey mildew.
The request was made on behalf some organic hops growers in Quebec and B.C. regarding the need for additional organic products to control downy mildew this season, over concerns that the current 4 applications of copper currently permitted on hops would not be sufficient, due to the severity of the outbreak this in some parts of the country this year, given how severe symptoms are in some yards.
The emergency application to amend the registration of Regalia Maxx Biofungicide Liquid Concentrate (Reg. No. 30199) for the emergency suppression of downey mildew (Pseudoperonospora Humilia) on hops has been granted. Pursuant to section 18 of the Pest Control Product Regulations, the amendment is granted for a validity period beginning July 13, 2015 and ending July 12, 2016, subject to the following conditions. Label changes must be made according to the annotated supplemental label.

OHGA agreed to cover a third of the cost of the emergency registration – on behalf if its members, in the event they need to add it to their IMP arsenal.

Agri-mek® Insecticide/Miticide label expanded via Minor Use Program for control of spider mites on hops in Canada
Also, The Pest Management Regulatory Agency (PMRA) recently announced the approval of an URMULE registration for Agri-mek® Insecticide/Miticide for control of spider mites on hops in Canada.
Agri-mek® was already labeled for use on some tree fruits, berries, celery, onions and potatoes in Canada. This minor use project was submitted by Ontario in 2011 as a result of minor use priorities established by growers and extension personnel.
Make first application when mites first appear but before the economic threshold is exceeded. Make a second application if monitoring indicates that it is necessary. Users should consult the complete label before using Agri-mek®.
This product is highly toxic to bees exposed to direct treatment or residues on blooming crops or weeds. Do not apply this product or allow drift to blooming crops or weeds if bees are visiting the treatment area. Agri-mek® is also toxic to aquatic organisms, fish and wildlife. Do not contaminate off-target areas or aquatic habitats when spraying or when cleaning and rinsing spray equipment or containers.
Follow all other precautions and directions for use on the Agri-mek® label carefully.
