In an effort to improve yields, Ontario Hop Growers’ are working with OMAFRA to to institutionalize some key field days and workshops to help deal with the difficult issue of integrated pest management in hop yards.
So, mark your calendars now for the following events! We will add to this list as more activities are identified.
1) Hops Indoor Integrated Pest Management workshop for Hops growers April 8, 2016

Location: Woodstock OMAFRA Resource Centre, easy access off Hwy. 401 (SW Ontario)
Melanie Filotas, OMAFRA Integrated Pest Management Specialist, Specialty Crops – will be conducting an indoor presentation on general scouting protocols for hops, identification of major insects found in the hops yard (hop aphid, looper, spider mites etc), and disease (i.e. downy mildew).
A good general discussion how how to identify pests in the hop yard and integrated pest & disease strategies for both conventional and organic growers alike, plus a product registration update.

This event is open to all OHGA members and non-members on a first-come, first-served basis. There are a limited number of spots available.

Join OMAFRA specialists Melanie Filotas and Evan Elford for an in-field workshop on seasonal issues in hops. Topics covered will include an overview of scouting hops yards, hands-on identification of key pests present in the hops yard and a discussion of current production challenges of not for the 2016 season.
This is an informal workshop with ample time for participants to ask questions on current agronomic and pest management challenges.
