Canadian & American brewers team up for inaugural Can-Am craft beer festival

CANADIAN AND AMERICAN BREWERIES TO SHOWCASE COLLABORATIVE BREWS AT INAUGURAL  EVENT

March 7, 2018 – (NIAGARA FALLS, ON) – Bringing together some of the finest craft breweries from both sides of the border for the ultimate collaborative brewing experience, Ontario Craft Brewers (OCB) in collaboration with the Buffalo Niagara Brewers Association (BNBA) will host the first ever Canadian American Beer Festival (Can Am) on April 7, 2018 at the Conference & Event Center of Niagara Falls (USA). The event will run from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m.

There are 40 breweries participating in the festival; 20 Canadian and 20 American. Each of the 20 Canadian breweries collaborated with an American brewery and each of the 20 American breweries collaborated with a Canadian brewery to join forces in making as many as 40 unique collaborative brews. These special collaborations will be available for the first time at the festival and subsequently at the host breweries, while supplies last.

“The growing craft beer scenes in both Ontario and Western New York gave us the idea to bring together breweries from both sides of the border to create new brews that encompass the qualities that make each of them unique,” said Scott Simmons, President of Ontario Craft Brewers. “This event will highlight the collaborative nature of the craft brewing industry, the quality craft beer, and the many professional friendships that exist in our bi-national region.”

“We’re excited to participate in this first event of its kind,” said Peter Chiodo, President of Flying Monkeys Craft Brewery and coordinator of the Canadian brewery collaborations. “It’s quite a feat to be able to connect all of these breweries for brew days on both sides of our border. The results will be amazing, creative brews and new and productive partnerships within our shared industry.”

Along with the collaborative beers, the festival will highlight a wide array of Canadian culinary and cultural offerings. There will be Canadian-themed food stations to give attendees a chance to taste classic and new dishes paired with the Can Am brews. International experts such as Stephen Beaumont, author of “The Beer and Food Companion,” and Gary Toraville, head of the Canadian Food and Wine Institute, will be on hand to provide informative perspectives on what is going on in the world of beer and food in Canada.

Festival organizers are expecting a large turnout of guests from across Ontario who will be attending the festival, including about 50 students from the Niagara Teaching College which has been a tremendous asset for the craft beer industry. Many other groups and organizations and representatives from government agencies in Canada also are expected to attend.

“Coordinating the logistics of an event in which product is crossing an international border is no small feat and on behalf of the BNBA and OCB we want to thank officials at the New York State Liquor Authority, the Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau, Customs and Border Protection and both the American and Canadian consulates,” said BNBA president Willard Brooks. “I also want to acknowledge and thank Senator Schumer’s office for coordinating the communications with all of these agencies. We now can focus strictly on the exposure of what is going to be a tremendous event for the craft beer industry in Southern Ontario and the Buffalo Niagara region.”
